Maren Metke - Co-Founder of Vashon Family Camp, Organizer & Educator (WA & CA camps)

Maren Metke brings multiple decades of NVC integration as a mother, holistic educator, founder of schools, trainer and community builder, and is excited to offer the opportunity for humans of all ages and walks of like to learn and be touched by experiences and tools like NVC Family Camp.

She is excited to join in and facilitate some integration of the tools, play, make offerings, support learning and connection,  as well as organize and savor this experience with other likeminded community members. She is also a musician, artist and runs her own classes and client practice integrating the tools teachings of NVC an NLP. She works with schools, communities, couples and individuals of all ages in supporting a sense of clarity and deeper connection to self and others.

Jeremy Barnes

Jeremy came into NVC by accident in 2010 when they reluctantly tagged along to Camp with their mom. They’ve returned nearly every year since with or without the rest of their family. Growing up with NVC and Family Camp has been deeply formative for them, contributing to the foundation of who they are and how they relate to others. 

Jeremy particularly likes to work with teens and young adults, and they’ve had the opportunity to use NVC in a variety of settings to great success. 

Jeremy likes cooking, making art, reading (mostly fantasy), games of all sorts, and natural history. 

Marcia Christen

NVC Trainer & Parent Educator (WA camp)

Marcia is a Certified Trainer and Assessor with the Center for Nonviolent Communication, with extensive experience as a mother of three, now adult children.  She brings tons of compassion, creativity, and passion to this work of living Nonviolent Communication.

She discovered NVC in 2006 while working as a parent educator, student/parent/teacher liaison and elementary Montessori school teacher.  She was seeking more connected ways to parent and was amazed at how it transformed her relationships. Marcia and her family began attending Vashon Family Camp in 2010. It has been by far the most contributing aspect to all her relationships. 

She offers NVC trainings, consultation and support for restorative processes. She brings a playfulness and a willingness to be silly and laugh as we grow and explore. She has been program staff since 2011 and on the organizing team for the past 6 camps. She also has been staff at Family Heart Camp in Wisconsin.

Tam

Chef (WA Camp)

Tam is honored to be asked to participate in the 2024 WA NVC Family Camp by leading up the kitchen.  One of her great joys in life is to cook a variety of healthy beautiful foods with and for others, offering a menu that is as inclusive and organic as possible, especially when the kitchen is surrounded by nature. This meets her need for beauty, community, challenge and contribution.

She looks forward to combining 20 years of experience with NVC, and a life long fascination with cooking, practicing communication and creating nourishing food from the heart with other campers.
